No one would reflect that there would be a way that fantastic athletes would conjure up or develop ways to improve their stats, career or even their place in baseball history. It is proven, but, that Hall of Fame greats and record breakers in the field of ball playing would in fact be at the head of such schemes–no matter the severity of the scheme. Cheaters have been recognized throughout this sport since nearly at its early enhancement.

The most notable offenders and cheating title holders would be: John McGraw, Gaylord Perry, Ty Cobb, Mike Scott, Ken Hrbeck, Joe Niekro, Pete Rose, and Albert Belle. Kent Hrbek was a charismatic player who helped his team reach two World Run. In 1991, his charisma was not enough to save him when in a play, a limb of the opposing team landed on his base. Lo and behold, Hrbek in an orchestrated maneuver he thought to be covert bumped the fellow off the base. He tagged the guy out. What Hrbek did not know, was that there were cameras running at certain angles poised to catch him in the act. Hrbek himself found out what it was like to be OUT!

Joe Niekro was no weirder to the emery board, ball-shaving fix. Even though Niekro claimed the emery board in his pocket was to file his fingernails so he could keep his knuckleball skills in check, it wasn’t until 1987 he was caught cheating. An umps’ eye caught an emery board small out of Niekro’s pocket and Niekro got suspended for 10 days, no skepticism giving the pitcher sufficient time to keep a clean set of nails.

Pete Rose was a gambler. At times in the world of sports, inside information has benefited players or fans alike. One small fact could swing a bet one way or another, but no one would reflect that a player would bet on his own team. It would not only be ethically incorrect, but a detrimental career go if caught. Hall of Fame inductee Pete Rose made such a career-crippling go by placing bets on the outcomes of his own teams’ games!

In the unholy name of baseball cheating, there was Albert Belle. He was known to have “his own kind” of special bat; one that could have been known to hold more cork than a million bottles of champagne. Most times, individual team members could be blamed for tampering with this fantastic sport. But for the sake of keeping any more skeletons from coming out of closets, it can be safe to discuss this topic: The 1919 Chicago White Sox Give up. * What is the difference between baseball and softball?

Baseball is team sport where a player on one team attempts to throw a hard, fist- sized ball past a player on the other team, who attempts to hit the baseball with smooth, tapered, cylindrical stab called bat.

A team scores only when batting, by advancing past a run of four markers called bases arranged at the corners.

Softball is a variant of baseball played with a larger ball on a smaller field. Despite its name, the ball used is not necessarily soft, but it is larger than a baseball and it may have a softer outer layer. The rules of this game vary to some extent from those of baseball.

The catcher’s mitt is huge, round and padded. The baseman’s mitt is longer than the other kinds of mitts especially when compared to the fielder’s mitt.
The fielder’s mitt has two types, the infielder’s mitt and the outfielder’s mitt. The infielder’s mitt is smaller than the outfielder’s mitt.

Baseball was a very young sport in the mid-eighteen hundreds, so batters usually made their own bats. This led to a lot of experimentation with the shape and size of the baseball bat. It didn’t take long for players to learn that the best bats were those with rounded barrels. With all the shapes and sizes being used, some rule had to be established about the bat. In 1859, it was established that baseball bats could be no larger than two and a half inches in diameter, though they could be any length. After ten years, a restriction of 42 inches was place on the length of the baseball bat, but still no set of laws governing the shape.

1884: The Louisville Slugger is Born

Baseball bat’s most well loved name, still to this day, is the Louisville Slugger. Seventeen-year-ancient John Hillerich watched Pete Browning break his bat at an 1884 Louisville game. John observed as Pete Browning got frustrated, and after the game offered to make him a new bat. Pete Browning joined John Hillerich at his father’s woodworking shop, where Pete supervised the construction of his new bat. Browning went three for three with his new bat. Word spread quickly, but not as quickly as the demand did once all knew about these bats. It wasn’t long before each baseball bat that John and his father constructed was slapped with the well-known Louisville Slugger trademark.

Evolution of Set of laws

In the 1890s, bats could no longer be flat at the end, according to the rules committee. They augmented the diameter by a quarter of an inch as well, making the maximum diameter two and three quarters of an inch. In the early nineteen hundreds, one of the greatest players, Honus Wagner, was the first player paid to have his name burned into Louisville Slugger bats. Despite the continual evolution of the set of laws regarding the size and shape of bats, the bats of today look much like the ones of a hundred years ago, the largest difference being that today’s bats are much lighter and have thinner handles.

The Rise of Aluminum

William Shroyer patented the first metal baseball bat in 1924, though they were not seen in baseball until introduced by Value in 1970. Value soon produced the first aluminum one-piece bat, and the first small league aluminum bat. Easton introduced a much stronger bat in the late ‘70s . These skyrocketed the popularity of aluminum bats, though they were not allowed in major league games. Continuing developments include double walled bats, and scandium-aluminum bats.

The Nineteenth Century

Baseball and photography in the United States were both seeing an explosion of popularity in the mid nineteenth century. This provoked baseball clubs to start taking individual and group pictures of their members. Some of these pictures were printed on smaller cards, much like modern-day, wallet sized photos. In the late 1860s, baseball became a professional sport, and trading cards started to appear with photos of players and teams. These were mainly used as a means of advertisement for companies, who placed an ad on the back of the card.

A sporting goods store in New York, called Peck and Snyder, started production of trading cards featuring teams. As a sporting goods store, baseball cards were the perfect advertisement vehicle for them. The cards produced by Peck and Snyder are often times referred to as the first baseball cards.

A trade card during these times typically featured an image on one side, and a business advertisement on the reverse side. Color printing technology started to increase the attractiveness of baseball cards. Photos started to be seen in black and white as well as sepia. Some baseball cards were printed as playing cards, either for conventional card games or simulations of a baseball game.

By 1886 cigarette packs often included baseball cards in them for promotional purposes as well as the protection of the cigarettes. Baseball had become so well loved by the end of the century that production of the baseball cards had not only spread across the Americas, but also into the Pacific Isles.

Early Twentieth Century

The majority of cards being produced were by candy companies and cigarette companies. Breisch-Williams Company, (a Pennsylvania-based confectionary company), produced the first major set of baseball cards of the century in 1903. Soon after, baseball cards were beginning to appear in more and more products. In 1914, Cracker Jack’s started using baseball cards as the included prize in the box.

The Twenties to the Fifties

Baseball card production started to fall off during World War I due to the transition to wartime production. This lasted until the late thirties, when the United States started to see the things of the fantastic depression. During the years in between, production of baseball cards went through the roof. The culmination of this production spike was the Goudey Gum Company’s set, produced in 1933.

Again, in 1941, wartime production started to significantly affect the number of baseball cards being produced. In 1948, baseball card production augmented once again. The Leaf Candy Company and Bowman Gum introduced the first sets when wartime production came to a halt. During the1950s, Japanese baseball cards associated with the well loved Japanese card game, menko, started to flood the market.
